Update: 5G Create competition and pitching event

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Department for Digital, Media, Culture & Sport (DCMS) has extended the timelines for its 5G Create competition. This will allow organisations more time to network and put bids together.

There are two ‘windows’ for the competition – 8 weeks and 16 weeks – and these now start from 6 April rather than the original launch date. This means that closing dates are now 1 June 2020 and 27 July 2020.

Pitch for partners

KTN and UK5G are organising a 5G Create online pitching event to help people put together collaborative partnerships; Scotland-based businesses are encouraged to take part.

The event takes place on 22 April, and pitches should be for a maximum of 3 minutes and 3 slides, covering:

  • What you’re looking to do if you are proposing a project.
  • What do you have to offer?
  • What and/or who are you looking for?

More details are available here.

Another date for your 5G Create calendar is an online briefing event on 11 May. You can find out more and register here.

What is 5G Create?

5G Create is an open competition within the UK Government’s 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme. Up to £30 million of funding is available, aiming to explore and develop new use-cases and 5G technical capabilities.

For more details, including timelines, how to apply and funding available, see here.

Also worth a quick read is an interesting blog on the UK5G website about what makes the 5G Create competition different.
