The Dumfries & Galloway region area is strong on partnership working and has a comprehensive economic development ecosystem which can support our ambitions for S5GConnect Dumfries.

This includes:

  • The South of Scotland Enterprise Agency which recognises the importance of social and environmental goals alongside economic growth.
  • The Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, a partnership between five local authorities that line the border between Scotland and England. Its priorities include addressing digital infrastructure.
  • The Crichton, on the edge of Dumfries, is home to a host of educational, commercial, recreational and cultural facilities, including 90 organisations, five academic partners, over 1000 employees and over 6,000 Higher Education students. There are four universities on site: Glasgow and the West of Scotland, the Open University in Scotland and Scotland’s Rural College – providing a host of opportunities to integrate the work of the S5GConnect hub with academic research on the possibilities of 5G technologies.
